At it’s simplest level a restraint system is designed to manage and control the kinematic energy of an occupant within the confines of a vehicle, during a deceleration event. This way we can ensure that we minimise the risk of injury in any given scenario. Through the use of physical testing and numerical modelling we help our customers to fine tune and deliver the capability required for their vehicles, not only to the minimal legal or consumer test requirement but normally well beyond normal legislative thresholds.
Modern vehicles operate with complex electronic management systems able to detect the onset of an impact to the vehicle and if required take evasive action i.e. activate electronic stability program in order to avoid the incident and if unable to prevent the collision then it would deploy the restraint system in a given level of activation to ensure maximum protection with minimal risk of injury to the user. The Algorithms used in these devices are derived from data created within a suite of simulation runs using products such as MADYMO in order to define the maximum level of protection that can be delivered to the various sized occupants that would be operating such a vehicle.
